Take a look at Interpol.It was said to be a rip-off of Joy Division,though Paul Banks' main influences included Cobain.They've tried to make a musical style of their own,but it kinda sounded like Joy Division's(mainly because of the voice).That doesn't mean they're a rip-off and a shitty band.Similarly,just because,The National's style is a bit like Interpol's,doesn't mean,it's a rip-off. @V4apor have you heard harry patch (in memory of)? Do you know who composed the ENTIRE score? Jonny Greenwood. The national are great musicians (Ive seen live twice), but theres no doubt that radiohead is at least one of the most inventive bands of all time. Pyramid song, Paranoid android, Karma police, all great and creative songs in their own right. It takes a while to actually appreciate radioheads greatness, dont give up on them yet. This video kicked ass by the way

@samhainkid Agreed. It's true that they are not a household name, but I recently saw The National preform at the LC Pavilion in Columbus. They sold it out, nearly 5000 tickets and a huge percentage of them of high school and junior high age. I found this somewhat surprising, pleasantly so, but surprising nonetheless. Especially considering that the content of Matt Berninger's lyrics is relatively 'grown-up'.

My comment was quick and to the point - yes they have, quite excellently created their own style and sound. Based on lots of influences, as we are influenced by others in life... ... and I was quite right... they are most certainly influenced by Joy Division - as I've since checked them out on wiki etc.... @Graiskye i agree. i couldn't handle seeing these guys live or even listening to their album all the way through. just the idea of being stuck or forced to listen to this kind of music for a long period of time makes me restless but i have those moments where this is the perfect type of music. relaxing, careless, free, sorrowful. i just have to mix it up after a while or i'll start to feel like i'm dying. lethargic, emo, and a bit suicidal haha. this stuff gets boring without a change of pace

I've been a fan of this band since Alligator, and this was the first time I'd seen them live. When the show started, I couldn't get over how staged the whole TV production made them feel. The "unremarkable lives of adults" seemed to have come full circle. Then Matt came into the crowd and it felt like I was in some mega church full of devotees.... the god damn sea parted and they tore the place down. This band's special, and it'll be fun watching them grow from here.

Interesting that a handful of adults spend time every day trolling the comments section of a video (this one) which they supposedly think is kooky and unconvincing, even though anyone who watches it can see the opposite. @HUD92458 Indeed I do remember the statement. The engines don't need to "warm" they need to rotate (depending on the aircraft at around 16000 rpm) in order to produce power. You don't just sit in it, flick a switch, put it in gear and start rolling. I haven't been able to find your 18 September, 2001 press release on NORADS website and have no idea what context it was in but your task is to demonstrate that it was policy to keep aircraft "locked and loaded, engines running" as you asserted.

From time of an order to wheels in the well (airborne & gear retracted) is about 5 min"... that was the 5 minute claim I was referring to. And you have yet to provide proof that this is policy. Post something that verifies that US fighters are routinely kept on the tarmac with the engines running.

i love the lyrics to this song because it can apply to so many situations. It can mean you're literally losing someone as in death or your growing apart from someone or that person is changing and you feel you're losing them. The lyrics are so sad but honest and I think so many people can relate to them. "How close I am to losing you" is my favorite line.
